My dad and I are trying to convince my mom that she needs one of these when her Outback comes off lease now that my sister and I are moved out/ in college.

They depreciate before they’re even sold, so you can get great deals on them. I’ve heard of people getting them for $8k off sticker.

Yes, and I *think* there’s an aftermarket hardtop available now? At any rate, the deals are very tempting.

did you buy it or are you just reviewing it?

Have you driven the ND Miata? How does it compare?
And you’re really in love with the slush box?

I enjoy the style of the 124; it’s a cleaner, less pretentious look than the ND (not that I dislike th
e ND look)
. The laggy-
punchy Fiat 1.4T is also a fun engine, if a bit wheezy at the top end.

Yes. I imagine if it fits a ND then it should fit a Fiata. Miata.net forum (good place to join as a Fiata/Miata owner) member was selling a DG Motorsports carbon fiber top for $1,400 a while ago. https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?p=8889348
A Japanese tuning shop named Murakami has a hardtop for their time attack ND and a white Garage Vary racer but I’ve yet to see anything available for purchase. Rev9 says to email them (them being Rev9) if you want to be notified whenever they open up pre-orders. Rev9 imports the parts from Japan, they’re the middle man because it’s hard to get in contact with these small shops...let alone bridge the language barrier.

That looks fantastic, especially in body color. I’m assuming pricey though, but, then, if you get a good enough deal on the 124 in the first place.

If the DG one is still available and I had a ND, then I’d probably go for it. OEM NA/NB hardtops typically hover around $1k in various conditions. NC hardtops are rare and tend to go for a little more but it’s a small market. $1,400 for a lightweight ND hardtop that might need some DIY window seals isn’t a bad deal, especially since the only other hardtop out there is the Mazdaspeed unit that’s only sold to MX-5 Cup teams.

Yeah, the used prices don’t sound bad at all. I’ve paid t hat much for wristwatches I barely pretty much never wear.

That is very pretty...

I like the look of them, but I’m not really a fan of that 1.4 turbo. Maybe it’s better matched to the car that it was to the early Dart I drove with one. Though it’s likely easier to manage with a Mazda-sourced box vs. the Case/
New Holland tractor transmission in the Dart.

I dig these, but the lack of color in that pic disturbs me...

My LS is beige, my ISF is dark grey, and the neighbors on the other side have 2 black cars. It gets worse.

The auto gearbox is amazing for an autogearbox.

It sure is much better looking than the Mazda. I obviously would get it in a color though, and with a manual.
I would like to drive both this and the Mazda though, to see which engine I’d prefer.

I went down a rabbit hole recently to learn that the Fiata has a different bracket at the back of the roof storage such that an ND hardtop won’t attach correctly. I think I was considering a dedicated autocross car at the time, but I’d want a hardtop, so this mattered to me.

Agree - they had a special edition 124 that came in a nice blue, I wonder if they’ll make that available for an Abarth.
